From Sunday 31 October to Friday 12 November, the UK is hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) in Glasgow.

Arguably one of the most important and crucial global events of our time, COP26 brings together heads of state, climate experts and campaigners to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change.

But we all have an essential role to play in our climate future. And, as COP26 approaches, it is important for young people to be able to engage with and have an insight into what is happening during the negotiations. A Mock COP is an excellent way to do just that.

Funded by the Cabot Institute for the Environment, Praxis Research has designed a Mock COP for schools, based on the Model United Nations. The resources are free to download and have been created under a Creative Commons license.

Teachers and schools can run their own Mock COPS or take advantage of Mock COPS taking place in their local community. For example, the University of Aberdeen is inviting 60 students from Aberdeen and the surrounding area to take part in a Mock COP on 28 October, providing the students an opportunity to “transport themselves to the centre of international politics of climate change”.
