Black History Month 2024
With an emphasis on celebrating Black history and correcting historical inaccuracies, the theme for this year’s Black History Month (BHM) is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. Going beyond stories of slavery and civil rights, this year’s BHM focuses on “celebrating Black excellence in all its forms—whether in the arts, sciences, politics, or everyday life.”
How stories can teach young people about life in a changing climate
Whether factual or fictitious, stories are a powerful tool for instructing, entertaining and engaging an audience . For millennia, Indigenous communities have told stories to pass on knowledge to the next generation . Storytelling can help those who have been through trauma to reframe their experiences. And stories are not only told with words – images and objects can also tell stories that expose the personal stories behind social and environmental injustice.
